Stroud U17 Ladies won the team championships at the Midland Counties Cross County Championships held at Leamington Spa delivering Stroud and Gloucestershire’s club’s first female team gold at this regional championship which covers one third of England. All the members of the Stroud U17L team were also the 2015 U13G bronze medal winning team and after just missing out on team medal for 3 years they were determined this year to win a team medal. Strong runs by Annie Tester, Lydia Attwell, Inca Padfield and Grace Tavner sealed the victory, in particular Lydia who moved through the field and powered up the hill pulling away from a 2 times English school champion to the finish. In a close contest the Stroud Ladies eventually overcame strong challenges from the Wolverhampton, and Newcastle staffs teams. Coach Chris Brown said “every athlete gave 100% effort on the day which was rewarded with individual and team medals, plus a shield brought home to Stroud by the U17L”.
Stroud U20 Men won the team silver medal for a second year, the 2 times winner of individual U20M title Tom Mortimer joined the team to support the team medal bid who is suffering from a long term foot injury, protecting his foot gingerly ran the course finishing 2nd adding to the Stroud medal count.
