Tom Mortimer in action for Great Britain XC in Edinburgh

Tom Mortimer in Edinburgh

Tom Mortimer won his first Great Britain cross country cap as he helped the GB team to 2nd place behind the combined European team but in front of last year’s winners the USA in the picturesque Holyrood Park (including a climb up the base of the mountain known as Arthurs Seat) in Edinburgh. Tom finished 6th and the 2nd GB runner home on this occasion but could not get to the lead and impose himself as he likes to do. He found himself in the 2nd chase group as the top 5 broke away and led the chasing group for the last of 3 laps before breaking away to chase the lead group on his own. He was closing with every stride but the lead was to great, although he nearly caught Mario Garcia of Europe in a tense sprint finish for 5th place.
