Tom Mortimer sharpened his speed on Sunday ahead of the European Nations team championships next week in Poland, as a guest in the 1500m at the Home Nations International held at Loughborough University. Tom’s aim was run hard and hopefully get a PB, but with grim windy and wet conditions a hard run was on the cards for sure but a PB looked unlikely!
Tom settled in the pack for 600m but as the pace slowed he was boxed in, not wanting a slow race he dropped back and then flow to the front and put his foot down stretching the field. As he entered the home straight only the pre race favorite was in touch and moved on to his shoulder, Tom changed gear and pulled away to win by 5 meters in 3min 42.90s a PB by 4.36s!
Tom is ranked 6th fastest of the 8 runner in Poland, but this performance was just the confident boost that Tom wanted before Poland!
