Return to Running activities

The club is delighted to report that the updated guidelines from England Athletics following the Government’s route map to recovery has enabled us to plan a return to group activities, including our 2021 Race Series. Our COVID-19 recovery group has updated our Club plan and the associated risk assessments which can be viewed here.

Under the proposed timetable we should be able to run in groups again under controlled conditions from 29 March. Group sizes have to be strictly controlled and runners aware of the continuing need for the usual precautions of hand sanitising and distancing, especially when there are interactions with the public.

Our adult group leaders have given careful thought to the size of group they are comfortable to lead to begin with and most of us will be using an App provided by Run Together to act as a booking tool and register for runners. Groups will be starting from different points around the area with some staggering of start times to try to help groups maintain distance from each other and to avoid groups of runners congregating in one place.

We will be publishing a list of all the groups to show when and where they will be running with the links for you to book onto individual sessions. Some leaders who prefer not to use the App will continue to use their preferred methods of text, WhatsApp etc to communicate with their group.

We cannot promise to provide sessions for everyone to begin with, given the constraints on group sizes, and we are aware that runners might be cautious about returning to run in larger groups and may need “refresher” training to rebuild strength and confidence. We do have some excellent leaders and more have come forward to qualify for their leaders licence. Many thanks to them and to all our willing volunteers. In the meantime, if you are having difficulty finding a session for you to run please contact me so that we can try to iron out any teething problems. We may need to ask for your patience while we iron out any issues.

The Junior groups will be following a cautious, phased return with the older Juniors, coached by Chris Brown, returning first and training outside at Gloucester track and on Archway School field. Arrangements for the younger ones are still under review.

Invitations for membership renewal will be going out very shortly and I am very pleased to report that we have received a batch of SADAC-branded neck warmer/buffs which will be offered to the first 200 members who renew their membership and want one. Details of how to request one of these when you renew your membership are set out on the website and in the newsletter. If on the other hand you would prefer not to renew your membership then do please click here to contact Soph Wear, our new membership secretary, and we will cancel your renewal as quickly as possible.
