Tom Mortimer led the England men’s 5k road team to victory in the Home Counties 5k Championships on a wet and breezy Saturday evening in Cardiff.
Although Cardiff is not considered a fast course due to the sharp turns he put in a dominant performance to win the race and lead the England team to victory.
The slow course did not stop Tom from surprising many with a fast time, breaking clear at 3k to take the victory and, in doing so, he broke both the course record and the Welsh all-comers record with a time of 13min 37s.

This places Tom 4th fastest in Europe, in a year of new records, behind the new France and European record holder, the new US based British record holder, and the new German record holder.
Tom will next race at the GB team world 5k road trials on the 8th September in Newcastle. With only 2 GB places available there will be strong competition.
Alastair Campbell ran in the Elite men B race, running strongly and sticking to the lead group for 3k. When the group broke up he finished in 3rd place in a time of 15min 24s , a seasons best by 15s!
Another great performance from our Stroud runners.
